I started experiencing back pain while I was exercising at the gym, so I decided it was time to see a physiotherapist for help. Using the UBC student health care database, I looked for a clinic that was close to home, easy to book with, and had good reviews:) Physio Room, seemed to meet by criteria, so I decided to give them a shot. Little did I know, my first appointment was only the beginning of a new adventure.
My time at Physio Room – two and a half years, if you can believe it – has been simply invaluable. The clinic pushed me to develop my leadership and management skills outside the military environment that I was accustomed to (I have been a Cadet and Canadian Forces officer for 10 plus years!). I’ve learned new ways to communicate with my colleagues (I dare say my friends) and new strategies to stay organized in a diverse and fast-paced environment. Aside from the great opportunity for professional and personal development, Physio Room has inspired me to pursue a career in physiotherapy. Like our passionate therapists, I hope to one day help people live and perform – in recreation and sport.
Because of previous work experiences I never thought that I would use the word “fun” to describe work, but the Physio Room crew definitely inspires the mantra, “work hard and play hard.” What I enjoy about work the most is being surrounded by a team of creative, passionate, ambitious, and supportive individuals. I am grateful for having the opportunity to work and learn from such amazing individuals.
I am extremely thankful to be a part of the Physio Room team and I can’t wait for what the future has in store! Congratulations to Physio Room and the team on our 5-year milestone!
